Centuries-old forests
The Ardennes forests are centuries old. About 3,000 years ago, Celtic tribes settled in this region. They lived in contact with the abundant and protective nature called Arduinna. The origin and meaning of this word is uncertain ("black", "deep", "lofty") but it is clearly linked to the Celtic hunting goddess Arduinna who, riding on a wild boar, was the protector of the forest. The Celtic culture still gives the Ardennes a magical and enchanting atmosphere, with druids, fairies, elves and gnomes.
