Ancient charm in the Vallée de la Lesse
Celles, located in the province of Namur and part of the municipality of Houyet, is an ancient Romanesque village rightly ranked among the most beautiful villages in Wallonia. Inhabited for thousands of years, the area still exudes the tranquility and authenticity of former times.
Of monks and legends
The history of Celles dates back to the 7th century, when the monk Hadelinus founded a monastery here. The village grew into a spiritual place that still retains its historical soul. The beautiful Saint-Hadelin church, built in Romanesque style, is the heart of the village and is used not only for worship services, but also for classical concerts.
Walk along history and nature
A small walk of about 4 kilometers leads you along the most beautiful spots of Celles and the surrounding estates. Along the way you will pass the impressive Castle of Vêves, which can be visited between April 1 and November 1. This 15th-century castle was completely restored in its original military style in the middle of the last century.
Taste the local atmosphere
After the walk, settle down on a cozy terrace in the village center and enjoy a locally brewed Cuvée Saint-Hadelin, available as a blonde or amber beer. A delightful end to a day in this characterful village.
