Rocks of Uchon
Phenomenal view

At the southernmost tip of the Morvan lies Uchon, a small but fascinating elevation that the locals call "the pearl of the Morvan" for good reason.

From Étang-sur-Arroux, you reach Uchon via a narrow, winding road that climbs up after the village of La Chapelle-sous-Uchon. You can ride up to the viewpoint, but if you want to try it by bike, you will need excellent fitness: Uchon is at an altitude of 681 meters.

Les Rochers du Carnaval - natural art from granite

At the top, a panorama awaits that really makes you pause for a moment.
In addition, you will find here a special geological phenomenon: Les Rochers du Carnaval. These massive, jagged granite blocks seem to have been randomly strewn across the hilltop. In reality, they were formed by centuries of erosion, which gave the rocks their bizarre, almost sculptural shapes.

Many rocks have appealing nicknames, such as La Mammouth and Le Nez du Chien - perfect fodder for geologists, as well as lovers of myths and legends of the region.

Hiking among the rocks

Several hiking trails have been set up around Uchon, taking you past even more striking rock formations. Each path treats you to new vistas, quiet forests and that typical Morvan feeling of pure nature and space.
