Entrevaux
Medieval fortress full of charm

A fortified town that impresses

Entrevaux is one big backdrop of medieval ramparts, narrow streets, gates and stone bridges. As soon as you arrive, you notice the imposing entrance gate: the Porte Royale, with the drawbridge in front of it that once served as a defense against invaders.

Walking inside, you are immediately immersed in a maze of small alleys, old houses with pastel shutters and squares where time seems to stand still. Peace and Provencal charm prevail here.

Citadel of Vauban - sentinels above the valley

High above Entrevaux towers the citadel, an imposing structure fortified by Vauban - Louis XIV's military architect.
The climb up is along a zig-zagging path past weathered walls and strategic bastions. The view from the top is magnificent: the river winds through the valley, the mountains rise up around you and the town lies at your feet like a painting.

Provencal atmosphere between the city walls

Inside the city walls you will find artisan stores, small galleries, cafes and bistros that exude the authentic atmosphere of Haute Provence. Everything feels unhurried and warm, just as you expect in this region.

The Var River flows past the town in shades of turquoise, a beautiful contrast to the old stonework. Entrevaux is small but bursting with character - an ideal getaway during your stay in the Alps or Haute Provence.
