On the rugged cliffs between Dénia and Xàbia lies one of the Costa Blanca's most extraordinary natural spots: Cova Tallada, an impressive sea cave that you reach via an adventurous coastal walk. It is a place where land and sea almost seem to touch - raw, mysterious and enchantingly beautiful.
An adventurous walk along the Mediterranean
The walk starts at Les Rotes, on the southwest side of Dénia. The path winds along the rocky coast, with constant views of the clear blue sea. The route is varied: from wide stretches to narrow paths between vegetation and rocks. At various points you look out over the cliffs, coves and the imposing Torre del Gerro, the watchtower that has been watching the coast for centuries.
The scent of sea, salt and Mediterranean plants runs with you. This is the Costa Blanca at its best: natural, wild and pure.
Arriving at the cave - another world
After a final stretch over rocks, you carefully descend to the entrance of the Cova Tallada. As soon as you step inside, everything changes.
The cave opens up like a cathedral of stone, with natural arches, carved chambers and water lighting up the rocks in shades of turquoise and gold.
Inside, all you hear is the gentle lapping of the sea against the rock walls. The light entering through the openings creates an almost magical atmosphere.
This place was used as a quarry in the Middle Ages - you can still see the traces of the carved rock. It makes the cave even more impressive: a mix of natural power and ancient human history.
Swim, watch and enjoy
In calm water, you can paddle at the edge of the cave or even snorkel briefly in the crystal-clear water. With waves or strong winds, however, caution is important - the sea can be powerful here.
Whatever you do there, one thing is certain: the Cova Tallada is a place you won't soon forget.
Back via viewpoints and Torre del Gerro
The route back is partly along the same path, but if you want, you can make a small loop towards the viewpoint at Els Molins or the historic Torre del Gerro. From here you have a wonderful panorama of the coastline, the sea and the nature reserve of Les Rotes.
A perfect end to a hike full of adventure, history and nature.
