A step back in time in picturesque Solwaster
The hike begins in the charming village of Solwaster, a starting point that immediately captures the imagination. With its monumental buildings and quiet lanes, the village provides an atmospheric backdrop. With your back to the church, walk down the street and turn right just before the characteristic house with a crucifix on its facade. We recommend taking a moment to wander through the village first; it offers numerous picturesque corners that are perfect for your first holiday photo.
Wild waters and the magic of the cascades
The route follows the Statte naturally, leading you along a wild, babbling brook where nature is still truly in charge. Along the way, you will be treated to unique landmarks that invite you to pause, such as the imposing Bilisse Rock and the enchanting Cascades des Nutons. The sound of water rushing over the rocks gives this hike an almost meditative character, allowing you to instantly leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind.
A relaxed return through rolling landscapes
Eventually, you will reach a small bridge over the Statte, the point where you turn right for the journey back. While the way out is characterized by rocky paths and rugged nature, you return towards the village via mostly paved roads. This part of the walk is gentle and very pleasant; it is easy underfoot and gives you plenty of space to take in the impressions of the natural beauty as you descend back into Solwaster.
Lingering memories of a winter wonderland
On a cold day, with a biting wind, this valley transforms into a unique winter landscape. The river can be largely frozen, creating a magical atmosphere that you won't easily find elsewhere. Back in the village, local terraces and restaurants await to warm you up, providing the perfect place to reminisce about this special journey through the heart of the Ardennes.
