If you're staying at Chalet Stambecco, this hike really shouldn't be missed. Just the drive to the dam - through small mountain villages, old stone bridges and the nostalgic Italian countryside - is breathtakingly beautiful. It feels like slowly driving into another world: the place where Italy and Switzerland meet.
A lake that is almost too beautiful to be real
Upon arrival, you immediately see why this is one of the most beautiful gems of the Aosta Valley. The Place Moulin reservoir is an engineering masterpiece, but above all, a visual marvel. The water has a hue you can hardly describe: turquoise, aquamarine, icy blue - it seems almost unreal.
The walk along the lake is quiet, wide and accessible, with views of the high ridges hugging the valley at every moment.
Halfway up: a log cabin with views to last
About halfway up, you'll come across a sturdy, atmospheric log cabin. A perfect place for a short break: the view is so impressive that you would easily want to stay there for a few days.
An Italian surprise at the end of the lake
As a reward, at the end of the trail awaits a cozy refuge where you can go for coffee, cake or something savory. Here you sit on the terrace with a panorama that feels like it came from a postcard - a moment of pure Alpine tranquility.
