Along the coast of Abruzzo stand mysterious wooden structures that once battled the raging Adriatic sea: the trabocchi. Once clever fishing installations built on long, fragile poles, they have now become perhaps the most charming seaside restaurants in all of Italy.
From a distance, they seem almost otherworldly. As if a giant wooden crab, resting on its thin legs, moves gently across the water. The silhouette against the horizon - especially at sunrise or sunset - is downright magical.
Today, many trabocchi have been lovingly transformed into intimate dining spots over the sea. You literally dine on the water, with the lapping of the waves below you and fresh fish coming straight from the Adriatic.
A unique experience ... AND you eat exceptionally well.
