In the middle of the Ardennes countryside, La Roche region, lies La Chartreuse: the former coach house of an impressive 1873 estate built by monsieur Piedboeuf, the founder of Jupiler. Once intended as a maison de maître and hunting lodge, the place has a rich past - from a role in the Battle of the Bulge to a period when an Indian maharaja stayed here.
Today the coach house has been lovingly renovated with attention to detail into a warm, comfortable vacation home for four, balancing history and contemporary convenience.
This feels like coming home
Through the private driveway you reach the terrace and step into a house that feels like coming home.
The kitchen is fully equipped: a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher with tablets, a generous 90 cm gas stove with electric oven, a Nespresso machine with milk frother and a basic supply of coffee, tea and spices - everything so you can start cooking right away.
In the lounge, the sitting area invites you to sit together; on cool evenings, light your own crackling fire and enjoy the silence of the surrounding forest. Wifi and a smart TV with satellite/Belgacom channels make your stay relaxing and comfortable at the same time.
On the second floor you will find two cozy bedrooms with comfortable box-spring beds - made up on arrival with fresh bed linen - and a bathroom with bath, separate shower, sink and toilet, overlooking the greenery.
Everything is provided: towels, soaps and small necessities; even if you forgot something, the owners are happy to help you.
Outside there is a spacious terrace with gas BBQ and a cozy lounge area under the canopy where you can lounge in the evening; on request there is also an infrared sauna.
A path runs from the garden into the forest - 400 acres of Ardennes to explore with good walking shoes or boots.

By coincidence in the same week as last year we were guests of Saskia and Henco, and the 'guest' should be written with capital letters. Such a friendly and hospitable reception is rare and during such a week in and around their Koetshuis you really feel like a guest. Everything is taken care of down to the last detail, there is a beautiful bouquet of wild flowers on the table and the refrigerator is richly stocked with all sorts of delicacies. The surrounding woodland cozy garden with terrace offers an oasis of tranquility, with the grass neatly mowed. We did not use the garden room with sliding glass windows and sauna, but this is also a wonderful place to bivouac. In the house, everything is "wonderfully clean," and you don't find this everywhere either. The beds are excellent and in the bathroom - with bathtub and rain shower - are more than enough wonderfully soft towels. Early morning walks with our Beagle Morris were again a great success, with a fox crossing our path once and a day later we could approach the pigs with piglets until they smelled us and they left into the dense young forest. With trips to Durbuy, Rochefort, Saint-Hubert and Marche-en-Famenne, we "filled" our days. In the evening we had several delicious barbecues on the terrace sitting in the setting sun. Once again we completely relaxed and that thanks to the excellent care of Saskia and Henco. See you next year. Oooh yes, still one suggestions: make "something" where your guests can leave where they had a nice dinner, because it is not always bbq weather.
Everything was perfect! Complete peace and privacy - a little paradise for us and our dog. Thanks to the large windows you have a direct view of the forest, which literally begins behind the door. We had wonderful walks in the immediate surroundings.

What a breath of fresh air, this stay! Everything exudes comfort and pampering - just what we needed.
We arrived in peace, welcomed with a warm welcome, a nice aperitif and a neat breakfast for the first morning. Thus, our mini vacation started right away.
The cottage itself? Down to the last detail: spotless, fully equipped and with attention to detail. The infrared sauna was a blissful end to our walks through nature. And the crackling fireplace completed the picture.
We slept wonderfully and returned home recharged. A place to cherish.

The cottage is really perfectly furnished, the coach house is beautiful.
Renovated with respect for the old elements but well insulated. The cottage was also very clean and bright . In the evening we lit the fireplace and it became even cozier. The very practical kitchen really helps you to prepare your own dishes, also thanks to the many tools, herbs available for free and a fridge filled with things you can definitely use. We arrived on a holiday and this was a welcome help. The hostess is really top notch and leaves you in your own peace but if you need anything she will try to help,

The cottage is in a beautiful location and has all the amenities and more! It is clean, complete, cozy and suitable for all seasons. Really everything has been thought of. You really feel spoiled. The only surprise is that the owner's house is nearby, but that does not bother you.

An exceptionally beautifully furnished cottage with every comfort. A nice very bright living area, comfortable sofas, large fireplace with wood. Special details: beautiful books and magazines, everything for breakfast was available, even towels as in a hotel. And then also art in the house. Very unique. The house and carriage house are located in a large natural garden. A nicely decorated terrace and lawn are directly adjacent to the coach house.
Very nice reception with a nice and warm and personal touch, the landlord provides a real feeling of welcome that we rarely encounter. the furnishing is top, tasteful and very comfortable and fully equipped.

The immediate surroundings of the cottage are beautiful and there are also beautiful trips in nature to be made in the area. Hiking, kayaking, biking is all possible in the area. The cottage has been beautifully refurbished and decorated with great care for detail. We immediately felt welcome and at ease. For the children enough space in and around the house (private terrace and lawn) to enjoy playing. The ideal place to recharge completely.
The carriage house is in the middle of nature! You step out the door and are immediately in nature and the forest. And with any luck you can see the deer from the bathroom...really fantastic! A lovely, light and beautiful and fully equipped house! It lacks nothing. A lovely space in a beautiful setting. Very warm owners and you feel very welcome. Fireplace, nice walk, wine ... in short ... total relaxation is guaranteed
You lack nothing in this cottage! We really enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen, delicious cooking and baking (there are cookbooks too!), the spacious bath, the nice atmosphere and the peace and quiet. It is wonderful to relax both inside and outside and even if you do not feel like doing anything in the beautiful surroundings, you will still have a great time here.
It was coming home on vacation. So incredibly hospitable we were received, and then so familiar almost felt our stay in the coach house. Everything was thought of, the house is beautifully renovated and more than a vacation home. We especially enjoyed the lovely fresh flowers from the garden that were put down for us, the outside area where we had a nice fire and the magical view from the bathroom, even showering felt special. We would have liked to stay in this place forever!
Wonderfully quiet, lots of wildlife ( boar and deer ) well also many swampy parts, even in summer!!! Recommended if you like peace and quiet!
